The de Leon prizes in Neuroimaging aim to recognize scientists judged to have published “best papers” in the field of neuroimaging of neurodegenerative processes.

The paper has to focus on neuroimaging of Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia causing mechanisms.
The paper must be published in any peer-reviewed journal between January 1, 2024 - December 31, 2024 and be in manuscript or final galley format at the time of the award nomination.

Author Eligibility Requirements:
  • Nominees must demonstrate a current or past affiliation to a major academic or research/treatment institution(s).
  • Trainee prize: (student, postdoc, clinical fellow) nominee: within three years of terminal degree and has to be the first author.
  • Junior scientist: between four and 12 years past terminal degree, and the nominee has to be the first or last author. Individuals who are already at the rank of Full Professor are only eligible for the Senior Scientist.
  • Senior scientist: more than 12 years past terminal degree and/or Full Professior or equivalent, and the nominee has to be the first or last author.

The early career awards (i.e. trainee or junior scientist) can only be won once. This means that if someone previously received the trainee award, this person will no longer be eligible for the junior scientist award.

Winners need to be verified as an ISTAART Neuroimaging PIA member at the time of the announcement.

Note: multiple nominations received for a single paper does not factor into the decision-making process.

  • Awards will be presented at the 2025 Alzheimer’s Imaging Consortium (July 26, 2025) in Toronto, Canada.
  • Recipients must be able to attend AIC in person (unless there are significant extenuating circumstances).
